Sleepy Creek is open from October through April. For those who are interested in spending the night, Sleepy Creek offers winter camping. The Potomac River is a great place to enjoy some ice fishing. The river is stocked with trout from October through March, and there is no license required to fish for these fish. There are a few things you’ll need for a successful fishing trip on the ice.
First, you’ll need a fishing pole. If you don’t have your own, you can rent one from one of the area bait shops. You’ll also need a fishing license, ice fishing gear (ice auger, bucket, and tip-up), and ice cleats. The ice cleats are a must since they will prevent you from falling through the ice.
