3 Fun Winter Activities You Can Drive to From Martinsburg, WV

Snow Sports at the White Grass Ski Touring Center

The White Grass Ski Touring Center is a great place to get outside and enjoy some winter sports. With an extensive trail system, you can choose from about a dozen different trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. While there, you can also choose from a selection of pay-for activities such as sledding, tubing, and ice skating. White Grass also has a tubing hill, which is open daily.

The tubing hill offers open, closed, and covered lanes for tubing. The hill is open daily, and tubes can be rented on the property. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also available on a daily basis. Snowshoes and cross-country skis are available to rent on the property. The White Grass Ski Touring Center is located at White Grass Ski Day Lodge, 643 Weiss Knob Ski Rd, Davis.

Winter Camping at the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area

Located just an hour away from Martinsburg at Berkeley Springs, Sleepy Creek is a winter-friendly destination. Sleepy Creek hosts a winter festival every February, which includes a number of activities and events, including ice skating, bonfires, sledding, and more.

Sleepy Creek is open from October through April. For those who are interested in spending the night, Sleepy Creek offers winter camping. There are tent pads and outhouses located on the property for those looking to camp. There are also opportunities for ice fishing and ice skating on the Potomac River.

Ice Fishing on the Potomac River

The Potomac River is a great place to enjoy some ice fishing. The river is stocked with trout from October through March, and there is no license required to fish for these fish. There are a few things you’ll need for a successful fishing trip on the ice.

First, you’ll need a fishing pole. If you don’t have your own, you can rent one from one of the area bait shops. You’ll also need a fishing license, ice fishing gear (ice auger, bucket, and tip-up), and ice cleats. The ice cleats are a must since they will prevent you from falling through the ice.

Winter is a great time to get out and enjoy nature. Be sure to check out these three fun activities and enjoy the season.
